Social skills and eventual social competence is often taken for granted- something that develops naturally for many neuro-typical individuals. For individuals with ASD the development of social skills is a significant barrier which is further compounded by the variability of social opportunities and difficulties with generalization.
Review the Case Study Examples for Chapter 7. Identify specific examples of social deficits and needs for Kelly, Khalil, and Carlos. How are their needs similar? How are they different? In what ways does their age impact their social needs? Based upon their social needs, specify at least one social goal and specific intervention to support each individual.
