The purpose of this assignment is to apply your knowledge of normal human physiology to a common clinical condition. You will choose a human disease from the list provided below and explain the underlying physiological alterations that lead to the development of this condition. Your paper should contain the following information:
a) A detailed description of the normal physiology of the organ/tissue/system affected by the condition of your choosing. For this component of the assignment, you should focus on physiological processes that you will later discuss in the context of disease development. When writing this component of the assignment, you may wish to ask yourself:
• What are the major structures of the organ/tissue/system?
• What are the major functions of the organ/tissue/system and why are they important?
• How does the organ/tissue/system typically adapt to deviations from homeostasis?
b) An overview of the condition of your choosing. You will need to define the condition and describe its characteristic signs and symptoms. You will also need to discuss the alterations in physiological function that occur during this condition.
c) A detailed description of the process of disease development. This is the most critical component of this assignment and will require you to apply your knowledge of normal human physiology to the condition of your choosing.
